Piano Lessons! Fun and affordable!

Kids learn faster when having fun!

Hello and welcome! Teaching piano is my passion. There is not much I love more than to share the ability to create music and watch students grow in their musicianship. I strongly believe playing piano should be rooted in joy and inspiration. My aim is to connect your child to the music they love in a very enjoyable way while maintaining disciplined progress in the fundamentals. After a decade of one to one instruction, I branched out into teaching group lessons and found that most kids learn a whole lot faster and have way more fun along the way.

Small four student group format allows for faster learning through:

*fun and competitive games

*dynamic and multi-sensory methods to practice sight reading and drill fundamental concepts with ample opportunity for repetition

*regular opportunities to perform in front of peers reducing stage fright

*observation

*helping other students

Students are encouraged to:

*enjoy and learn pieces from genres of their own choosing

*improvise and compose

*collaborate with other musicians playing different instruments

After many years of teaching, I have found this method provides most students with a firmer grasp of the main elements of music as well as faster and longer lasting concept retention.

Policies and Cost

Tuition and Billing

Students, ages 7 and up, attend a one hour group session once per week at my home studio, located in Arlington Washington. Tuition is $100 per student per month due on the first of each month. Families are responsible for purchasing or printing and assembling the curriculum book needed for each student. Students will need a new book for each level as they progress. Students graduate levels at their own pace. Tuition is a flat rate and does not fluctuate based on illness, vacation time, recital season etc. This is strictly for ease of billing on both sides. I do not count whether there are four or five lessons in a month. This flat monthly rate covers two recitals per year and a positive incentive program. An annual materials fee is due at the beginning of the school year. The material fee is $35 per family.

Adults - Adults are offered private, 30 minute weekly lessons for a flat rate of $200 per month.

Adults are taught music they enjoy while learning how to sight read and understand theory. Tuition is due at the first lesson of each month for the same month.

Curriculum

Alongside my own methods in class, I also use the Free Piano Method, designed by Mayron Cole. She was a life long professional piano teacher and was the first to put on the market, a curriculum  designed to take the student from beginner to college level piano. Her curriculum is excellent and was designed for small group instruction. It is available for free at TheFreePianoMethod.com, if the parent prefers to print out at home, assemble and bring to class. Her books are also available for purchase on Amazon. Beginning level students will need the “pre-level 1” book by Mayron Cole. After that, levels are listed as 1, 2, 3…

Older students who are ready will be required to purchase two practice books to be kept at home. The first is the “Hanon” series, which is a set of exercises designed to build dexterity, agility and strength in the fingers. The second is “Sight Reading and Harmony,” designed to teach musical literacy. Both will be expected to be part of the student’s daily home practice. The investment for these books combined is around $60. Students will be able to work out of them for many years.

Make Up Policy

As of fall 2024, families will receive one make up lesson per month for cancellations made for any reason. If I have to cancel for any reason, I will offer an additional make up slot.

Illness policy

Please keep in mind the policy for the music studio is more conservative than a school. If your child has a productive cough and/or a constant runny nose, please reschedule. If your child has had any flu related symptoms within the last week, please reschedule. I teach in my home and ask this to respect my own family’s health as well as the other students in the group class. Thank you.
